Seniors: Match Review 10/11

10 Nov 2013 by Benny Lannen

Bulls 1st XI vs Mooroolbark 1st XI

The 1s travelled to Mooroolbark for this round 3 fixture which saw two undefeated teams come up against each other vying for top spot. Mooroolbark won the toss and chose to have a bat which might have made them look a bit silly as our venomous pace attack had them reeling 5/26. There was some middle order resistance until big Sammy Ridgewell went bang leading the charge with 6/52 as we bowled them out for 177.

A stuttering start to the chase saw us at 3/19 until Seb Xantidis and Leigh Jones (28) stuck together to put on 40 odd when Leigh was then joined by brother Ev who went on to notch a half century. Despite a valiant effort from the boys we couldn’t quite chase the total falling just 10 runs short. Sitting 3rd and a great opportunity to bounce back against next round against South Croydon.

Bulls 2nd XI vs Mooroolbark 2nd XI

The 2s have had a great start to the year and were keen to continue their run at home against Mooroolbark. Dan Tucker won the toss and had a bat. Ben Lannen and Mark Razdan showed it was the right decision notching 40 before the fall of the first wicket. Luke Ervine and Mick Scott then added another 50. Simon Gray (42) and Tucker added another 40 odd for the 5th wicket. Using the full 80 overs we made an imposing 206 showing the value of batting in partnerships.

The following week the bowlers were equally impressive. Everyone bowled with solid discipline and kept it tight letting Jay Stoikos (5-51) and Mick Scott (5-25) steamroll through the side bowling them out for a meek 121. Great win lads.

Bulls 3rd XI vs Warranwood 3rd XI

In the last of one-dayer of the year the 3s travelled to Quambee. After being sent in Glenn Ibbott continued his fine form notching consecutive milestones blasting a fine 58. With some handy contributions from Moore, Simmons, Rigby and Fraser (23*) we set a target of 161. Warranwood chased hard and took it to a nail biting finish but too often lost wickets in quick succession. Henri Brook again the main destroyer with 3/29. The Bulls were also very impressive in the field with 2 run outs to Nat I’Anson and 1 to Leigh Rigby. Warranwood bowled out for 154, 6 runs short of our total.

Bulls 4th XI vs Kilsyth 4th XI

The 4s were at home and Flavio must have been feeling good winning the toss he chose to bat first and peeled of a crisp 52 at the top. Randy Briggs (24) and Pete Jane (32) stuck with him and together built a big score of 8/175 from their 35. Kilsyth got off to a good start, 0/40, but couldn’t get going again after that. Scotty Baker again extremely impressive with his 7 overs going for just 16 and picking up 2 poles along the way. Jacob Stanyer the pick of the bunch with 3/14. Restricting them to 9/129 the boys were far too strong, well done.

Bulls 5th XI vs South Warrandyte 4th XI

South Warrandyte won the toss and sent Dave Smeed’s side in, obviously not seeing the strength of the batting side Smeed had put together. Things started well with old man river Bryan Carrucan making a typically composed 46 at the top. With middle order contributions from Adam Partington, Riley Buckingham, Dave Smeed (23*) and young gun Ryan Peter-Budge (23) the 5th XI put on 170. With the ball in hand Andrew ‘Kinga’ Cary was unplayable 7-5-3-7 – what a fine display of fast bowling. Wickets to Djohan, McMaster, Ridgwell, Peter-Budge and Partington meant that they could not get anywhere near our score and were bowled out for 78.

6th XI had a Bye

Bulls 7th XI vs Croydon Ranges 7th XI

After being sent in we got off to a good start and managed to build partnerships all day. Travis Andrikopoulos got amongst the runs again with 55* as did Jason Stafford (42) and Daniel Redfern (37). An impressive total of 233 was really a case of getting the runs on the board. Jamie Dickman and Rockin Rod Stuart opened up the bowling snaring a wicket a piece. Eddie himself worked some magic taking 2/4 and Aaron ‘A-Rod’ Rodrigues chipped in with 2 and a run out. Young Benji Christanson also effected 2 vital run outs. In the end they were bowled out for 128. Great effort from the lads.
